Another thing about that very enchanting chick Elena Brower. She called herself “Darky Darktown,” and started talking about how we came from these dark families where dark things happened. The thing is, though, that everyone (otherwise known as the grownups) pretended that everything was light and fine. And that was crazy-making. While Elena was talking, the students—lined elbow to elbow, foot to face—were balancing upside down, and then there was a loud thud, and I heard Elena say, “Dominos!”
I’m looking forward to going back into that sweaty, overcrowded room. There was a guy playing the upright bass in an Avro Part-style upfront, which Elena said, added to the “epic quality” of the experience.
